Malaga city

The city of Malaga, in the south of Spain is joyful and convivial, with numerous gardens, Andalusian charm and Arabic influenced architecture. It is also the birthplace of the famous spanish actor Antonio Banderas and painter Pablo Picasso (see the Malaga Picasso Museum). Nestled between the sea and the mountains Málaga invites you to learn about its rich history while experiencing the energy of the modern city.
Malaga and the Costa del SOL
Malaga('s airport AGP) is the starting point for the Costa del SOL, the famous coast of the province of Malaga with well-known towns like Torremolinos and Marbella. As for the beaches of the city itself, you can find anything from steep cliffs and small coves towards the East, to the very central, famous Malagueta beach (the Paseo MarÃtimo Picasso) to endless sandy beaches to the West.
Places of interest in Malaga City
You can easily leave the Roman Amphitheatre to visit the Muslim fortress the Alcazaba, admire the splendid renaissance cathedral and then submerge yourself in the lively atmosphere of the nearby streets. You can see the city on foot, in a horse-drawn carriage or with the Malaga tour bus.
Despite some XIX Century alterations, traces of ancient Islamic roads can still be seen in the centre of Malaga, for example in Calle Granada or Calle Fresca. The best example of this is Larios Street, which is the main street of Málaga’s historic centre. The Aduana and Buenavista Palaces, Picasso’s house and the Casa del Consulado are a few of the interesting buildings to be seen in Málaga.
To the West of Málaga Spain, you will find Mount Gibralfaro and it’s castle of the same name from which you can enjoy some of great views of the city.
To the North of Malaga are the historical Finca de la Concepción and Finca de San José Gardens, with their large collections of plants and trees; there is also a colonial style palace.
Museums in Malaga
With over twenty museums, fifteen of them grouped together in the same area, Málaga has become a true City of Museums. With the incorporation of new projects (Wine Museum, Heritage Museum, Fine Arts Museum and the Holy Week Museum), its Historical Quarter alone will have as many as twenty-three museum facilities, making Malaga one of the cities with the highest density of museums in its Historical Quarter.
